After a few days, I go back to cinnamon and all is fine. I am forced to use MATE or XFCE when this happens. The process cinnamon -replace process periodically use 100% CPU and load averages off the scale. I have 4 main production linux boxes that use Cinnamon as the primary Desktop Environment.
